And then came the rain. It came with them, with their terrifying flock of ships. It stayed long after they had taken all the other cows, young, and a handful of bulls. We had never seen so much water in one place before. None of us knew how to swim. They left the bulls and the elderly and the ill there to die. Our ships couldn't take all the water, they were used to the perfect, dry, dusty world we were all accustomed to, that none of us would ever know again. Could we ever fix this?
The Salt Plains have turned treacherous -- there doesn't seem to be flooding there, but there are many pits of quicksand, almost indistinguishable from solid ground. Many of the ones who weren't lost initially have since drowned in the Pits. Such awful deaths. Such awful cries. We have to make it beyond the Salts, though. There are ships there that still might be able to fly, rocky land there that they still might be able to take off from. We have to keep trying. They brought the rain.
Nice :D
ReplyDeleteI love the narrative, it really gives context to the piece. Gives me some ideas too :)
ReplyDeleteI actually found a "cowboys vs aliens" graphic novel the other day that was fascinating source material too.
Wow, ok...a quick googling not only gave me the info:

But apparently there's a moving coming out in a few months based on it too:

Sweet! Glad it gives you ideas. That was the point.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but be reminded of Firefly from those comics -- but they're definitely good inspiration material! Thanks for pointing it out, I'll look into it some more.
